Princely Beguinage Ten Wijngaarde

The Princely Beguinage Ten Wijngaarde, with its white-painted façades and tranquil cloister garden, was founded in 1245.

The beguinage, which is a world heritage site, used to be inhabited by beguines, emancipated women who were laypeople but lived piously and celibately.

Nowadays, the beguinage is inhabited by nuns of the Order of Saint Benedict and single women of Bruges.
