Travel through three crucial periods in Bruges' rich history at this museum: the city's Burgundian heyday, the hitherto often forgotten period of the 17th and 18th centuries, and the rediscovery of Bruges in the 19th century neo-Gothic style.
More than 600 collection pieces, each telling its own story, bring these three periods to life. From elegant wood sculptures to refined historical lace, from majestic tapestries to Gothic stained-glass windows and from paintings from different periods to a 17th and 18th century set table with silver cutlery and precious Chinese porcelain. "Plus est en vous", or "There is more in you". This is the guiding principle throughout the museum, following the advice of Lodewijk van Gruuthuse. He gave the palace the necessary grandeur in the 15th century.
