By letting this work of art undergo a game of ebb and flow, Danish artist Nina Beier questions male power with Men.
Equestrian statues like this one were popular in ancient Rome and later during the reign of Louis XIV. The Sun King thought that men on horseback showed power and hierarchy in a perfect way. Statues that no longer stood in a public space were collected by Beier. She placed them in a formation at the edge of the sea. As the statues stand in this unusual environment, the element of prestige is replaced by that of drama. A daily repetition of disappearing and appearing, until the statues slowly fade away into anonymity.
